During last week’s All-Star festivities, there wasn’t much that the Chase Field crowd saw fit to cheer. Instead, almost everyone who wasn’t wearing an Arizona Diamondbacks uniform was the target of boos, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by fans watching at home.
It didn’t go unnoticed by the players, either, as San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson is still wondering why the fans were in such a cranky mood:
A lot of the Home Run Derby booing had to do with hometown star Justin Upton not being selected by NL captain Prince Fielder. And it makes sense that the Giants ? defending world champions and Arizona’s division rival ? wouldn’t receive the warmest of welcomes.
But The Beard does have a point here: Why would you come to an All-Star game if you’re going to be so hard to please? As Wilson points out, it’s not exactly a cheap outing.

Check this: a postrace handshake between Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick! What the heck’s going on here?
This gem of a photo is courtesy of the quick-thinking Queers4Gears.com. Apparently Busch stopped by and offered a “good race” congratulations to Harvick, who appears to be somewhat in disbelief. “Thought it was weird myself,” Harvick said on Twitter afterward.
So does this end the feud? Harvick’s continued Twitter reply was short and to the point: “No.”
Still, another chapter in the ongoing Busch-Harvick feud. What, pray tell, comes next?

It was a fine weekend of drivin’ fast and turnin’ right. From Kurt Busch’s dramatic win to the bizarre finish to the Nationwide race to fiery tempers flaring up, this was a pretty fine little weekend of racing. Watch this recap video and get fired up all over again.

On Sunday night, several of NASCAR’s biggest names took a cameo turn on the TV show “The Glades,” and they did a reasonably good job playing themselves. Check out the full video of the show right here; here’s a quick breakdown.
The based-in-Miami cop show leads off with a Camaro driving 130 mph, and no, it’s not Kyle Busch. In the trunk is the dead body of Cole Hunter, a crew member of NASCAR driver Trey Lancer, the driver of the No. 74 Ritz something-or-other. So who killed Cole? Was it Trey? The two-timing girlfriend? The Teresa Earnhardt-esque team owner? Chad Knaus? (Knaus, we can rule out because the dead guy isn’t one of his own crew.)
Anyway, the lead cop, Jim Longworth, wanders Homestead Speedway in search of answers, and runs smack into the NASCAR subculture, from transporters to hot passes to wafflebellies. (You know, the ladies on the other side of the garage’s chain-link fence who scream so hard for drivers that they end up with waffle imprints on their bellies.) And several of your favorite NASCAR guys get a turn onstage:
? Brian Vickers, hot blonde in tow, offers up the truism “It’s NASCAR. You gotta play by their rules.”
? Tony Stewart “fired” the crew guy who later ended up dead, and gets off the best line of the episode. I won’t spoil it, but Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans won’t be happy.
? Joey Logano plays an obliging, friendly driver with creepy accuracy, although he flagrantly violates the “no-autographs” rule on the sign above.
? Carl Edwards is the best actor of the bunch, engaging in a little who’s-on-first routine with the detective.
It’s worth checking out; any TV show that references Fireball Roberts is worth a look, even if the Southern accents on it wouldn’t pass any kind of inspection. Give us your review below.

? I don’t know if Cam Newton is going to be a good quarterback, but he does wear the hell out of a sweater. No way Jimmy Clausen pulls off that look.
? NFL.com’s Pat Kirwan ranks the NFL’s safeties. Joining Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu in the top five are Nick Collins, Louis Delmas and Earl Thomas.
? Speaking of Ed Reed, he told ESPN that he would never go through offseason neck surgeries like Peyton Manning in order to further his NFL career. “I love this game, but I love myself more,” he said.
? Man, Adam Schein really, really doesn’t like Tiki Barber.
? Brian Urlacher shared some thoughts on Soldier Field’s slow turf, his displeasure at being dispatched to play a game in London, and his willingness to have Plaxico Burress join him as a member of the Chicago Bears. He also made fun of Dhani Jones’ bow-tie.

HAMPTON, Ga. - Football players gotta do what they can to stay busy these days, even if that means changing a few tires.
Chad Ochocinco joined Jeff Burton at Atlanta Motor Speedway Thursday morning for a look inside the life of a NASCAR driver and pit crew. Ochocinco, who’s already tried his hand at bull riding and pro soccer and wants to have a go at alligator wrestling, took a ride with Burton and then, while Burton darted off to Daytona Beach, tried some pit maneuvers with the 31’s crew. Video of that is below.
“It’s so cool that someone who has dedicated his life to one sport is able to show people what it’s like in another sport,” Burton said afterward. “It was a great experience for him, and it gave us some great exposure for our sport.”
Ochocinco didn’t take the wheel; as he noted, “I probably would have put the car into the wall in Turn 1.” But he went out of his way to praise both Burton and his colleagues: “People don’t understand how much skill and danger is involved,” he said. “It’s a game of inches, and we were out there by ourselves. I can’t imagine what it’s like with 30, 40 other guys out there.”
After the drive, Ochocinco participated in an impromptu pit stop, where he learned the art of the tire changer:
And next, he tried to jack up a car, and found it’s not quite as easy as it looks:
If Burton manages to break his season-long winless streak at Daytona, Ochocinco may get a few more invitations to ride shotgun next week.

As hockey fans, we all react differently when our team is eliminated from Stanley Cup contention. Some of us swear off hockey until October. Some of us throw our jerseys in the wash for a karmic cleansing. And some of us get a little more creative.

The Calgary Flames didn’t make the Western Conference Playoffs, finishing 10th and three points out of the No. 8 seed. After their elimination, fans began spotting these curious signs around Calgary. From the Calgarypuck Forums back in April:
Maybe this is old news, but has anyone else seen the banners up on some of the pedestrian overpasses in town that look like a combination of a cartoon broken heart and the flaming C?
I’ve seen them on the pedestrian overpass by Dalhousie station on Crowchild and on the pedestrian overpass on Glenmore near Elbow Drive. They look more professional than some kids with spray paint on a sheet so I’m curious about them. The first one I just glanced at and thought I was seeing things but then I saw more.
There were many, many more ? but where did they come from?
From the mind and efforts of Roy Stallin, apparently.
This YouTube user (whose name is rather close to that of the antagonist from “Better Off Dead”) and T-shirt designer posted a clip that reveals the process behind the construction and distribution of the Calgary Flames ‘Broken Heart’ signs. Check it out:
It’s like a hockey-centric version of “Exit Through The Gift Shop.” Good to know NHL street art hasn’t completely been co-opted by Comcast.
